Privacy Policy

Learn how RUKN handles permissions, local data, iCloud sync, prayer time requests, device features, and privacy-related choices.

Overview

RUKN is built to keep as much of the experience as possible on your device.

The app does not use a RUKN account, ads, analytics tools, or tracking tools.

Bundled Qur'an, dua, hadith, tafsir, translation, and audio resources are stored locally for in-app use.

Location

RUKN only asks for location when you use prayer times or Qibla.

The app uses iOS When In Use location permission.

When prayer times or the prayer calendar refresh, RUKN sends your precise location and prayer calculation settings to Aladhan to fetch base prayer times. Apple location and geocoding services may also be used by the system features behind those screens.

You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.

Calendar

If you turn on calendar integration, RUKN may ask for full access to Apple Calendar so it can show and manage events in the app.

Calendar data stays on your device for in-app display and planning flows.

RUKN does not send your calendar data to a RUKN backend. If you use this feature, RUKN may create its own calendars in Apple Calendar for app-managed items.

Reminders

If you turn on task integration, RUKN may ask for full access to Apple Reminders so it can show and manage tasks in the app.

Reminder data stays on your device for in-app display, planning flows, and the task updates you make in RUKN.

RUKN does not send your reminder data to a RUKN backend. If you use this feature, RUKN may create its own reminder lists in Apple Reminders for app-managed tasks.

Widgets and Live Activities

If you enable widgets or Live Activities, prayer timing information can appear on your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and other system surfaces.

Widgets can also show last-read Quran progress so you can continue reading quickly. The Next Prayer Live Activity shows the upcoming prayer.

This data is generated on-device and shared only with RUKN's widget and Live Activity extensions through Apple's app group storage.

iCloud sync

If iCloud is available on your device, RUKN can sync your bookmarks, notes, and reading state, including last-read and progress, through your private iCloud account so the same data can appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

This sync uses Apple's CloudKit service in your private iCloud account. RUKN does not run its own sync backend or require a separate account.

If you delete synced items in RUKN, those changes also sync through your private iCloud account.

If iCloud is unavailable, disabled, or you are signed out, RUKN keeps working with the local data stored on that device.

Diagnostics and network activity

RUKN does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

If you enable Apple diagnostics sharing, Apple may provide app diagnostics through its own systems.

Current app network activity is limited to Apple services used by system features, iCloud/CloudKit when sync is available, and Aladhan requests for prayer times and the prayer calendar.
